An accident claimed the life of a teenage pedestrian on Ontario’s County Road 50 on May 30. The 16-year-old was pushing his dirt bike by the side of the road when he was hit by a minivan just before 10 p.m. The Ontario Provincial Police are continuing to investigate the reason for the auto-pedestrian accident. They did not speculate if speed, weather or road conditions, or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs contributed to the accident.
The vehicle knocked the dirt bike onto the gravel shoulder off the highway where it landed in front of the vehicle. Authorities closed down the road for hours as they investigated the crash.
Three individuals came to the accident scene with the hour, asking questions about what happened. One 18-year-old man said that another friend called him and expressed concern that he was the one involved in the accident. The friend wanted to see if he was okay. The teen elaborated that 15 to 20 people regularly ride their dirt bikes as a group of friends. He and two other friends went to the scene to see if they knew the person who was killed. However, he did not recognize the bike or know the owner. He added that it is illegal to ride dirt bikes on roads at that location.
After the death of a teen in an accident, family members will likely be understandably shocked. While authorities investigate the reason for the accident, relatives might seek closure and want to hold the responsible parties accountable for their actions. A personal injury lawyer might be able to help these family members file a wrongful death lawsuit.
