A number of Ontario police and emergency services responded to a three-vehicle crash around 6 a.m. on March 4 that left one woman dead. The accident occurred on London Road near Exeter, and the road was closed for several hours afterward. According to reports, the 19-year-old driver of a Jeep Wrangler, travelling north, crossed the centre line and hit a Toyota Solara and a Chrysler Intrepid that were both southbound.
The 46-year-old driver of the Chrysler, who was hit head on, died at the scene. Two people were in the Toyota, and they were taken to the hospital for observation and released several hours later. The Jeep driver was injured and went to the hospital, but those injuries were not life-threatening. The cause of the accident has not been released.
Wrongful deaths after automobile accidents like this one may sometimes be the responsibility of another driver or some other party, and in such a case, surviving family members may want to file a lawsuit against the responsible party. For example, a driver may have been driving too fast for conditions, distracted in some way or following another driver too closely. Any of these might constitute negligent behavior, and establishing negligence may be necessary for a successful wrongful death lawsuit.
Through a successful civil case, the family might be able to get compensation for lost income and other expenses related to the death of their loved one. This might include expenses related to emergency medical treatment or for funeral services. Compensation might also cover lost expected financial support that the victim offered a family.
