On Feb. 20, an Orillia man was killed in a multi-car crash west of Marathon. According to Ontario Provincial Police, the crash happened just before 7 p.m.
Authorities said the victim lost control of his vehicle while taking a curve on westbound Highway 17, smashing into a guardrail. An eastbound driver then pulled over to render assistance. As the two drivers waited for help to arrive, a second vehicle lost control and smashed into them.
The driver of the first car, age 35, suffered severe injuries and died while undergoing treatment at a local hospital. Two passengers in his car were taken to hospital with minor injuries and then released. The driver who attempted to help, a Marathon man, was transported to hospital with serious head injuries. Highway 17, which is part of the Trans-Canada Highway, was closed for 13 hours as police conducted an investigation and cleared the scene of the crash.
Any family who loses a loved one in a car accident caused by the negligence of another driver may wish to consult with a lawyer.
