A pedestrian accident in Toronto on July 28 has resulted in the death of woman. The accident occurred around 6 a.m. at the intersection of Humberline Drive and Finch Avenue in Rexdale. A woman in her 20s was attempting to cross the street from the southeast corner of Finch and Humberline. At the same time, a Brampton bus was traveling south on Humberline Drive. According to a staff sergeant, the bus was in the process of making a left turn onto Finch Avenue when it struck the woman, trapping her underneath the bus.
First responders attempted to lift the bus off the woman and render aid without causing further harm. However, their attempts were unsuccessful, and she died at the scene. The eastbound lanes of Finch Avenue near Humberline were closed while authorities cleared the scene and investigated the accident.
Reports do no indicate exactly what led to the collision between the bus and the pedestrian. According to the staff sergeant, it was dark and raining that morning, both of which may have been factors. The sergeant also stated that both the bus driver and the pedestrian had a green light.
In similar situations, families who have lost loved ones in pedestrian accidents might consider filing wrongful death claims. Such claims might allow them to seek compensation for final expenses and loss of companionship. In certain situations, it may also be possible to receive compensation for losing a source of financial support. A lawyer could file such a claim and represent a family during proceedings.
