Pedestrians and bicyclists are often at the mercy of motor vehicles when it comes to remaining safe. Even if the pedestrian crosses the street in a marked crosswalk at the appropriate time, if a car decides not to stop, the pedestrian can be seriously injured. If the bicyclist is riding in a bicycle lane adjacent to the motor vehicle lane, the bicyclist can be seriously injured if the motor vehicle driver crosses over into the bicycle lane and strikes the bicycle.
