Driver faces charges in fatal Ontario motorcycle crash

Authorities report that a 70-year-old man who resides in Zorra Township is facing multiple charges for his involvement in a fatal motorcycle accident on Sept. 7. The incident transpired at approximately 12:45 p.m. in Zorra Township, according to Ontario Provincial Police from Oxford County.

Ontario motorcycle fatalities may be increasing

Police warned on Aug. 21 that the province is on track to record the highest number of motorcycle fatalities in several years. They are urging motorists to be more cautious on roads. Authorities are reminding everyone who is on a motorcycle to wear highly visible clothing and to stay positioned in lanes properly so that other motorists are more likely to see them. At the same time, police remind other drivers to watch out for motorcycles, particularly before making a lane change.

Traffic lights to be installed after death of Ontario pedestrian

The Sept. 5, 2013, death of an 88-year-old Scarborough pedestrian may have been part of the impetus for the installation of traffic lights at an intersection presently containing only crosswalks. The pedestrian lived at the Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Seniors Residence near the intersection of Scunthorpe Road and Milner Avenue. On the day of the accident, the victim was crossing the street at that intersection on his motorized scooter when he was fatally struck by a truck.

Toronto police say distracted driving accidents on are the rise

According to Toronto police, traffic accidents caused by distracted drivers are on the rise. The number of drivers described as “inattentive” in city collision data grew by 50 per cent between 2000 and 2012. About 20 per cent of those collisions resulted in some form of injury. Approximately 200 injures were considered major, and 12 deaths were reported as well.

Highway 401 crash injures 3, kills 1

Ontario Provincial Police say that three people were injured and one man was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 401. The car crash occurred in the westbound lanes in Whitby at around 10:30 a.m. on June 24 and involved a transport truck, a bus and two cars. The westbound transport truck struck a westbound Toyota Corolla, shearing off the back of the car. A Setra bus and a Pontiac became involved in a crash after the initial accident.
