GIVING CLIENTS PEACE OF MIND

Fatal car crash occurs after woman fails to stop at intersection

An Ontario man was killed in a two-vehicle wreck near Mountsberg on Dec. 2. The accident is still being investigated, but it appears from police statements that one of the drivers ran a stop sign before the crash.

Around 3:30 p.m., a man from Waterdown was travelling westbound on Campbellville Road. At the same time, a woman was driving her vehicle north on Centre Road in the same area. As the man neared the intersection of the two roads, the woman travelled through a stop sign on Centre. The two vehicles collided, which caused the man’s vehicle to overturn. Both vehicles came to rest in a ditch on the side of the road.

Witnesses at the scene say that the man’s car was severely damaged on one side, making it difficult to extract him from the vehicle. The other side of the car was against the woman’s vehicle, preventing exit from that side. Rescue crews pronounced the man dead at the scene of the crash.

Reports indicate that the man had the right of way since Campbellville Road has no stop sign at this cross street. One local resident says that the amount of traffic at the intersection has increased. The resident believes that a four-way stop at the intersection could help to prevent future accidents.

In situations like this, a person who fails to obey a stop sign and causes a fatal accident may be liable for the damages a decedent’s family incurred. A personal injury lawyer might help a family file a wrongful death suit in civil court.
