A five-vehicle crash that occurred on the QEW near Port Credit has resulted in one death and multiple injuries. According to police, the accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. May 4 when a Nissan Murano became disabled in the right eastbound lane on the QEW near Cawthra Road. The Murano was being assisted by a tow truck in front of it and a Ministry of Transportation crash truck behind it when a white van crashed into the MTO truck with such force that it ripped the van apart and ejected two of its passengers.
The van then struck a black Mazda, causing it to crash into the disabled Murano, which subsequently struck the tow truck in front of it. The driver of the van, a 25-year-old Beeton man, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital. Police believe that he may have been driving under the influence and took him into custody. He is facing charges related to impaired driving and dangerous driving.
The crash resulted in the death of a 30-year-old Etobicoke man. A 29-year-old man and two 19-year-old women who were in the Mazda suffered minor injuries and were treated at hospital. Both the 51-year-old driver of the Murano and the 25-year-old driver of the MTO crash truck suffered minor injuries. The tow truck driver was uninjured. A portion of the QEW was closed about eight hours due to the crash.
Fatal motor vehicle accidents can happen suddenly and without warning. When a person is killed in a motor vehicle accident, the victim’s family may be faced with both emotional and financial challenges. Depending on the circumstances, it might be possible for the family to lodge a wrongful death claim and seek compensation for damages.
